Stuttgart / Wrth am Rhein, Jun 10, 2008 Hubertus Troska, head of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, handed over Mercedes-Benz Atego number 250,000 to Mr. Krzysztof Kozaryn, owner of the Polish company Kozaryn, in Wrth yesterday.
"We are pleased to hand over this landmark vehicle to a customer in what is, for us, one of the increasingly important, growing Central and Eastern European markets. We sold a total of 22,800 Atego models world-wide in 2007, of which 1,700 were in the EU accession countries," says Hubertus Troska, underlining the importance of these growth markets, adding that "Kozaryn was one of the first Eastern European transport companies to develop goods transport to the West. We are proud that Mercedes-Benz is able to support the successful development of this company with its products."
"The main reasons we opted for Mercedes-Benz are the brands very good efficiency, the high reliability and quality as well as its excellent service. We predominantly drive Mercedes-Benz trucks," said Krzysztof Kozaryn, owner of the Polish company Kozaryn, when the vehicle was handed over.
This year, Kozaryn has ordered several Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles, ranging from the Sprinter to the Atego and the Actros. The transport company is planning to order again from Mercedes in 2009. Even after it enters service at Kozaryn, the landmark vehicle will still be identifiable as the "Atego number 250,000 world-wide".
The distribution truck, now celebrating its 10th anniversary, has become firmly established in the distribution segment since its launch in spring 1998. In 2004 it received a major facelift, including further application-specific solutions to meet the special requirements of the distribution segment, such as the Telligent automatic gearshift system, for example.
The Atego delivered yesterday has a powerplant equipped with the automatic engine start/stop system, which switches the engine on and off automatically and, therefore, offers huge savings potential, especially in inner-city areas. The automatic engine start/stop system can cut fuel consumption by an average of 2.8%, with even greater savings possible in stop-and-go traffic. It also brings about a reduction in the vehicle's CO2 emissions in an equivalent range. The system stops the engine once the vehicle has been stationary for at least three seconds, a gear is not engaged and the clutch pedal has not been pressed. The engine is restarted automatically when the clutch pedal is pressed. In addition, the automatic stopping and starting of the engine makes the driver's job easier.
Haulage firm Kozaryn, based in Gorzw Wielkopolski, 80 kilometres from Frankfurt/Oder in Germany, has been in existence since 1991. The fleet operated by the constantly growing company includes among other vehicles 46 Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks and 48 Mercedes-Benz Atego trucks. Kozaryn is a socially responsible company and supports local sports teams and events.
