The 400 series spans three different product segments

Neu-Ulm, Jun 11, 2008 - At the start of June, the Setra Bus and Coach unit - a Daimler brand - supplied the 10,000th coach from the Setra 400 series. The milestone vehicle was one of a batch of five S 416 GT-HD/2 models to be handed over to Varan Turizm at the Setra Customer Centre in Neu-Ulm by the Chairman of Daimler Buses, Harald Landmann. In all, the Turkish key-account customer - a staunch business partner of the Ulm-based bus and coach brand for many years now - is adding 14 of these two-axle ComfortClass 400 touring coaches to its fleet. These vehicles form part of the Setra product segment for coach touring and occasional transport, and are the first ones to enter service in this Eurasian country.

The 4-star touring coaches are each equipped with 48 seats, a WC and a fitted kitchen, along with the very latest technical features for offering supreme travel comfort, such as a multi-channel sound system and a DVD player. Coaches are the main mode of transport in Turkey and are often deployed on long-distance routes.
The 230th Setra coach for Varan
It was back in 1981 that "Varan Turizm Seyahat A.S." bought its first Setra vehicle, a used S 215 H. The Istanbul company has operated a pure Setra fleet since 1984, and its founder, Nevzat Pekuysal, took delivery of his 100th Setra just eight years later in November 1992. The milestone model is also the 230th touring coach that Varan has purchased.

The Setra 400 model series: 20 models covering three product segments

The presentation ceremony for the TopClass 400 in Ulm in spring 2001 marked the launch of the 400 model series, comprising a total of 20 different models which span three product segments. The TopClass 400 models are synonymous with the ultimate in travel comfort, while the ComfortClass 400 blends demanding operation as a touring coach with occasional passenger transport. The MultiClass 400 buses, meanwhile, offer a combination of regular-service transport on the one hand and flexible handling capacity for excursions on the other.
