In addition to more power and higher fuel economy, the updated Porsche 911 sports car that goes on sale in September will have an equipment list that features duel-clutch transmission. DCTs combines the fuel economy benefits and sporty driving characteristics of a manual transmission with the easy operation of an automatic. They use two clutches and electronic controls to shift quickly and smoothly from gear to gear. Volkswagen and Audi use DCTs across their model lines, and the gearboxes figure prominently in Ford and Chrysler's vehicle plans. The transmission replaces the Tiptronic automatic gearbox Porsche pioneered.
