Subaru WRX STi vs Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
These two cars had a grudge against each other since the day they were both born. Both of them are AWD, both have turbos, both a 4-door saloons, both have big spoilers, and both participate in World Rally Championship. But even though they are similar, they are also very different. In the old days, it used the be the Subaru that was the ugly one, but now, with the new 2011 STi and Evolution X it's completely different. The Evo feels cheap, it's slower and heavier, whereas the STi has lost some weight and now is 2nd fastest 4-door saloon around Nurburgring. But even so, it's not perfect, and neither is the Evo. In the old days it used to be the Evo that you would race on the track, and use the STi to get back home. But now everything is different.
The new 2011 STi is believed to do 0-60 in 4.6 seconds. It has 305 horsepower and is capable of 290 lb-ft of torque. It's also nice looking too. The new sedan really looks great. Subaru put so much work into this car, and it seems to pay off. The Evo really doesn't stand a chance in this match, unless the Evo XI is going to be faster, which I don't think it will.
Let's take a closer look at the Evo. True, it has some amazing handling thanks to it's "Active Yaw Control" and "Traction Control" which combined together are just like Honda's SH-AWD. But the engine is very underpowered. You can't have a lot of power and no handling. But at the same time, you can't have great handling and no power. Mitsubishi Motors concentrated on handling and they forgot about power. Even though it has a "better" engine than Evo 9, Evo 9 still leaves it tailing on the corners and in between the corners. The Evolution did not evolve.
Unlike the previous STi's, the 2011 model does look awesome. They still haven't added optional Recaro seats, which is pissing me off because Subaru has it as an option in Russia. It is so much faster than any STi ever made, and it's close to kicking Panamera's ass. I have a feeling that even GT-R won't stand a chance against it.
If the Subaru and Mitsubishi just join up together, they will create an ultimate machine- combining Subaru's powerful Boxter engine with Mitsubishi's "Active Yaw Control" and "Traction Control". Name it Evolution STi or something, but make it! But no, they think that going against each other is better.
I personally like the STi more, and I always did, no matter how ugly it was. The Evo always looked cheap in my eyes and I never liked it much until the Evolution 9 came out. I began to actually like it, but as soon as the Evolution 10 came out, I hated it with passion. I didn't like the '08 STi either. It was uglier, smaller and slower. The evolution did not evolve, and the 2008 STi did not deserve to be called STi, until 2011 model.

Review for the STi itself is coming up.
