2010 WCA Swap Meet II

Some shots from the 2H/2010 Olari Swap Meet..

Is there a club for clean '58 - '64 Bugs? :)

My favourite car was actually a truck.

Juse's latest addition to his collection.

After party at Studio 44
Big thanks to Heebah&Jatimatic for fun night in the garage.

2010 WCA Spring Swap

'65 Pritschenwagen on it's maiden voyage.

Pauli was the only one of us with any sense of arriving with style.

Finnish VW scene is doing better than ever, at least as far as I remember or have been around, with two active parts businesses Aircooled.fi and Oberschlachter this kind of a widespread selection of parts is just awesome.

Kaitsu's Ford F100 Panelvan

Some shots about Kai Aulankoski's latest acquisition. Kai is one of the guys who will never run out of class comments (like infamous Finnish phrase "bermit alle ja tonttiin" in around 1997) and when he mentioned about the car over the phone he said "one will never fall asleep driving this bitch" :)

Kaitsu's Chopper

Some shots of Kai Aulankoski's latest creation; rebuilt Honda Chopper. The bike had been built in 80's in Sweden and it was bought/imported to Finland during the Winter.

Robin Backman's paintwork is just awesome. Really cool to see the combination of classic tricks but no flames, scallops or any (played-out) symbols.

I can spend hours just looking at the amazing paintwork and the detailed engine.

Blur as didn't have a tripod, and yeah I know, I won't apply for a photographer job in Rodder's Journal, but you'll get the idea of the sticker :)

Flashback: West Coast Aircoolers in 1995 Bug Run

While I was home recovering from flu I browsed my magazine stash looking for Cabriolet features, I found the January 1996 issue of VW Trends covering the 1995 Bug Run. The photo above has Matti's Zwitter and Kai's Oval.

This must be the '50 Split Jussi Jyrnk imported to Finland from the event.

Flashback: West Coast Aircoolers at American Car Show '98

Shots from 10 years ago. My and Heebah '63 Beetles side by side in 1998 American Car Show.

Both of us started stroker engine projects after we got our cars sorted and neither of managed to collect all the parts and get the engine up and running before the cars were gone. I sold my '63 in 2000 and Heebah passed his '63 forward to Otso little later.

Both of our engines were based on 84mm Okrasa cranks but that's where similarities end, I opted for driveability and Tomi all out performance. I tried my engine two occasions at drag strip and got best et of 13.7 while Tomi has been a lot faster. Couldn't check out how much since Jyri's list wasn't available..

Heebah's '63 sported Judson supercharged 1200cc at that time, "Old Speed" before the Belgians even invented the term :)

Flashback: Kai's Custom

Kai Aulankoski's '57 Oval featured in November 1993 issue of Volksworld Magazine. Kai's Oval was one of the very first (if not first) hot rodded Volkswagen I've ever seen and is one of the cars that got me interested in Volkswagens. This issue was already sold out when I got to know Kaitsu at WCA meetings and learned about the feature, but luckily found the issue from ebay.co.uk finally last week :)

Farewell Pasi!

Some shots from Pasi's farewell party held last week. Long-time Kupla Kopla garage and action-cars member Pasi decided to move to Sweden as building Kustoms is hell of a lot easier over there :)

I was glad to see the 30+ crowd of local Volkswagen guys and girls participating the party, especially certain "old-timers" among them.. Big thank you to Kurre for the photos.

Flashback: Pair of Pritschenwagens

Pekka's stroker-equipped Pritschenwagen in American Car Show 1997. That Type II still looks as good in Rafa's posession.

Kaitsu's Pritschen that was picked up near Turku.
