Wind tunnel, design and electronics integration centre to be built to create next generation of Porsches.
Porsche is set to invest 150million (126million) in its future. The firm has announced that it will splash the cash at its Weissach R&D site on a high-tech wind tunnel, which will ensure its next generation of cars slip through the air as efficiently as possible.
Also on the shopping list is a new, larger design centre. The studio will be linked to the wind tunnel, with Porsches intention to offer bespoke one-off cars for customers as Pininfarina does with cars like the new Stratos and Ferrari P4/5.
Porsches R&D boss Wolfgang Drheimer said "The new system will help us to maintain Porsche's top position in the fields of aerodynamics and design and to further extend our lead. Outstanding design with optimal aerodynamic efficiency have always been classic Porsche strongholds"
The firm will also bring a number of departments that are currently scattered around Porsches Weissach site into one building called the future electronics integration centre. The new building is set to be responsible for the firms hybrid and electric powertrains.
The last of the cash will be used on Porsches recruitment drive, which will include the addition of at least 100 new engineers.
