PREVIEW - The upcoming Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse model lineup
The facelift for the two models of the current C-Klasse range(Limousine, T-Modell) is programmed for the spring of 2011;then, we will also see the revival of the 'CLK' nameplate, that is to sit on the anticipated C-Klasse Coupe.
The refreshment for the successful C-Klasse will aim a visible overhaul of the front fascia:
- new headlights, with a more pronounced upper lid;
- revised radiator grille and air intakes;
- addition of LED day-time running lights.
The new C-Klasse FL will also receive a slightly updated rear end(obviously, sporting LED tail lights), as well as new wheel designs and new, upscale material+colour combinations for personalizing the inside of the car. The dashboard will be completely modified-the current retractable display for the COMAND infotainment system will likely be dropped down in favour of an on-board integrated one.
The long-awaited coupe model, to be launched together with the other two, will be a very attractive choice in this exclusive segment of the automobile market, according to Mercedes-Benz officials;the exterior design will be almost identical to that of the facelifted C-Klasse Limousine and T-Modell versions-only a few minor aesthetical tweaks, and of course the well-known Mercedes elegant coupe silhouette, will make the new CLK-Klasse different from its "brothers";the same 'borrowing' treatment will be applied to the interior. The new C-Klasse Coupe will be priced over the Limousine and T-Modell;the assembly process will take place at the Bremen facility in Germany.
Sophisticated technologies and systems will also be available-Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, PRE-SAFE and ATTENTION ASSIST are on the options' list. The powerplants' offer will include important premieres. Along the most interesting ones, we mention:
- C 180 powered by a 1.6 litres turbo unit, delivering 156 BHP
- C 200 CGI powered by a 1.8 litres unit, delivering 184 BHP
- C 350 CGI powered by a new 3.5 litres V6 unit, producing 306 BHP
- C 350 CDI powered by a new 3.0 litres V6 engine, delivering 252 BHP
- the top-of-the-range C 55 AMG powered by a new 5.4 litres twin-turbo engine, capable of achieving 422 BHP
All the models of the upcoming C-Klasse portfolio will spawn into AMG variants, and although the new CLK will compete with BMW's 3er Coupe, don't expect to see a cabrio version alongside the C-Klasse Coupe, majorly due to the higher production costs involved.
