After many other future or facelifted models have commenced their winter testing programme, it is now the turn of the roadster version of the recently premiered SLS AMG to endure the harsh weather of Northern Scandinavia.
Compared to the coupe model, the SLS AMG Cabrio will obviously lose the proverbial Gullwing doors in favor of conventional ones. To keep the weight levels down and not affect the overall performance, the engineers have adopted the soft-top solution for the construction of the roof;moreover, the chassis will be developed using lightweight materials. However, due to further body reinforcements, the 2012 SLS AMG Cabrio is expected to weigh around 1900 kilograms, 300 kilos more than the coupe. Power will come from the same naturally-aspirated 6,2 litres V8, delivering a maximum output/peak torque of 571 HP/650 Nm. The maximum speed won't reach the coupe's 317 km/h, but, probably, 310-315 km/h won't be that bad.
Mercedes-Benz will introduce the new SLS AMG Cabrio in the fall of 2010, at the Mondial de l'Automobile in Paris, with sales starting in 2011.
