action-cars TRIVIA: Modern classics: the Estates of the Mercedes-Benz 124 series
The 124 series from Mercedes-Benz is clearly a worthy iconic car for the German brand. Though it was premiered in 1984 and its lifespan lasted no less than 12 years, the 124 can be considered a young classic, judging by the impressive number of highly satisfied customers who managed to find the luxury, safety, comfort, joy of driving and practicality in a single vehicle. Every model of the lineup-the Limousine, the T-Modell(or Estate), the Coupe, the Cabriolet-comprises these unique features that brought the 124 series the commercial success and the general public appreciation. And, by far, the timeless design is the key feature of the entire W 124 lineup.
The main actor of today's TRIVIA article is the S 124 Estate version. It was introduced in September 1985, at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main.
First large-scale use worldwide of four-valve-per-cylinder technology in diesel engines, 4MATIC all-wheel-drive architecture offered as an option, ASR acceleration skid control or the sophisticated suspension system were only some of the many innovations that the S 124 brought with it.
