We are once again turning our attention to the rumoured Mercedes-Benz BLK, a compact SUV that will compete with BMW X1 and Audi Q3. Set to make its official debut sometime in 2011, it will certainly borrow the technical platform and the engines from the new A- & B-Klasse models, that are to be fully renewed and refined in 2010.
From what we found out, the new BLK will be GLK's little brother and is supposed to be offered in two, dedicated versions. They are internally dubbed as Street(the sporty one) and Nature(the offroad one).
The BLK will be powered by a completely new range of petrol and diesel units, with displacements ranging from 1.8 up to 2.2 litres. The smallest engine will be a '4-cylinders in line' developing a max. output of 136 BHP, whereas the high-end model will feature '2.2 litres 4-cylinders in line' unit, which will boast a massive 224 BHP.
Concerned about traction?Well, the BLK will use a standard FWD platform(man, why not RWD?), whereas 4WD will remain an option(combined with the 2.2 litres unit, AC, exquisite 18" rims + other fancy stuff for the picky ones), as it comes as no surprise that it will surely make this future Merc baby SUV fatter. That means an overall weight of about 1600 kilos.OUPS!
